Archery Canada names 5 Recurve & 1 Compound athlete to compete at the Berlin 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup, July 1st – 7th.
OTTAWA, ON – Stephanie Barrett (Mississauga, ON) , Mariessa Pinto (Abbotsford, BC) , Aaron Cox (Devon, AB) Brad Fulsang (Selwyn, ON) and Remi Gervais (Montreal, QC) have been selected to compete at the Berlin 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup. The competition is the fourth and final stage of the World Cup circuit and will take place at the same venue that will be used for the final Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifying tournament. Staffing the team for the event are Linda Price, Head Coach, and Trevor Gibson as Team Manager.
Berlin will be the first World Cup competitions for Barrett, Pinto, Cox and Gervais. Fulsang will be the team veteran having competed at the 2018 Salt Lake City World Cup. “With the event falling just a couple of weeks after the World Championships, and immediately before the Olympic test event in Tokyo, we thought it would be great to give our senior athletes a rest, while providing a new experience for some high-level developing athletes” said National Coach Shawn Riggs.
Linda Price and Trevor Gibson will also be working together for the first time at a World Cup event. “Developing coaches continues to be a priority, Price and Gibson have both been actively involved with this group of athletes, and have participated at multiple international events. Providing them this opportunity was a logical next step along their coach development pathway.” Said Alan Brahmst, High Performance Director.
The team will arrive in Berlin on June 29th with competition beginning on July 2nd.
Joining the Recurve team, will be Compound Archer Jamie Brehaut, of Lethbridge Alberta, who made his international, and World Cup debut earlier this year at the Shanghai World Cup. Looking to build off his performance in Shanghai, Brehaut is looking forward to shooting at a second World Cup event, continuing to build off previous performances.
The 2019 World Cup Final was announced to be going to Moscow, Russia later this year. The winner of each stop in the World Cup circuit earns an automatic ticket to the final event.
