Tokyo 2020 Ranking Rounds Have Ended
TOKYO, JPN – Crispin Duenas and Stephanie Barrett have finished their ranking rounds for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Barrett finished 46th, with a score of 630 at her first Olympic Games. She’ll face Yasemin Anagoz from Turkey in the first elimination round on Tuesday July 27 at 9:56 a.m. Japan Standard Time (JST).
“While an Olympic record was shot, the whole field appeared low with some unexpected results,” remarked Alan Brahmst, High Performance Advisor for Archery Canada. “Stephanie did well under a lot of pressure as a 1st time Olympian, ranking 46th. In the end, it’s the match play that counts and Stephanie is certainly ready for that.”
Duenas shot a score of 665 and earned 16th place in the qualifying round. This is his fourth Olympic Games. He is competing against Dan Olaru from the Republic of Moldova in the 1/32 eliminations on Tuesday July 27 at 11:01 a.m. JST.
“I expected a higher average than 671 for the top 20 but the 2nd half appeared to be tricky with some odd winds,” said Brahmst. “Duenas showed great resilience and experience to consistently move up the ladder and finish 16th after a bit of a bumpy start. He’s well prepared for his matches starting on Tuesday, which is what it’s all about in the end.”
Unfortunately, Barrett and Duenas narrowly missed out on qualifying for the top 16 in the mixed team competition and will now focus on preparing for their individual competitions next week.
