The first day of competition for Canada’s men’s Recurve archers has seen all four advance to the elimination round in Guatemala at the Hyundai Archery World Cup today.  It was a good return to competition for the archers with Crispin Duenas leading the Canadians ranking 7th in qualification, scoring 673, followed by Eric Peters (23rd), Brian Maxwell (24th) and Conner Sorley (36th).  World Champion, Brady Ellison of the USA was ranked first with 694.

« We were glad to get this first day of competition completed, after 20 months since Lima, the last international competition for these archers,” said National Recurve Coach, Shawn Riggs. “There were some early struggles followed by a show of good resilience from the group in the 2nd half. » 

The Men’s Team of Crispin Duenas, Eric Peters and Brian Maxwell advance to move into the 2nd round of eliminations which will take place on Friday morning. « There are some high ranking nations here, though the top Asian countries are not,” according to Alan Brahmst, High Performance Director. « We rank 5th as a team for now, but we have a lot of work ahead of us here in Guatemala. Most importantly, we are happy to be competing internationally again. »

Recurve Elimination rounds for Maxwell and Sorley get underway tomorrow, continuing Thursday and concluding Sunday.
