The Archer Skill Level (ASL) Model

The Archer’s Skill Level (ASL) Model, is a theoretical model that assumes that the skill of an archer remains constant, independent of how many arrows they shoot, what target face they shoot on, distance or rules. It assumes that one the arrow leaves the bow, the accuracy of the arrow has already been determined by the archer. This allows coaches and leadership to be able to look at data from an athlete, and highlight where things may not have gone to plan for an archer in a round.

For a detailed view on the ASL model, please visit: https://artemis.vapeldoorn.net/downloads/ArchersSkillLevel.pdf

At Archery Canada, we utilize the ASL as a predicative and evaluation tool for National Team Recurve athletes. This model has provided us with data that allows us to predict an identified athletes performance progression over time, and where Canadian athletes are competitively  in comparison with international competitors.

Each year, National Team athletes and identified Next Generation(s) athletes qualification round scores from all events, are collected and analyzed to predict performance progression and podium potential.
