Archery Canada announces Junior Bolaños as the new National Coach, Olympic Programs
OTTAWA, ON – Archery Canada is pleased to announce the hiring of Junior Bolaños as the new National Coach, Olympic Programs. Junior will be working directly with National Team Athletes in the Recurve Olympic Program, while providing guidance and expertise to the Compound Olympic Program in the lead up to the LA 2028 Olympic Games, as well as providing program support(s) where appropriate to the Paralympic Program, headed by Paralympic Head Coach, Linda Price. Junior began to transition to the new role on Jan. 15th, with a full time start as of Feb 2 2026.
Junior brings more than 20 years of experience in high-performance coaching across multiple nations and systems, having successfully led National Teams in Chile, Argentina, and Venezuela, as well as advising international federations in El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Paraguay, and Bolivia. His background includes leadership across Olympic, Paralympic, and Youth programs, with a demonstrated ability to guide athletes across the full development pathway from grassroots through elite international competition.
Throughout his career, Junior has supported athletes in achieving success and podium performances in:
- Olympic and Paralympic Games (including Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 qualifications)
- Pan American and South American Games
- World Championships
- Youth Olympic and Pan American Championships
Having recently served as the Head Coach with the Chilean Archery Federation since 2018, Junior has also acted as the Head Coach of the National Team of Argentina (2013–2017), where he led the team to its first-ever Archery World Cup medal in 2015 and record athlete qualification numbers for the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games. He brings extensive experience as a head coach with roles from earlier, as Head Coach of the National Team of Venezuela (2005–2011), where he guided national team athletes through the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 cycles, establishing comprehensive national training systems for junior and senior categories.
Junior is also an active member in the international archery community, and continental associations, having been a member or continues his work as a member of the World Archery Coaches Committee and World Archery America’s Development Committee.
In addition to international coaching success, he has designed and implemented national coach education systems, delivered numerous seminars and clinics, and led interdisciplinary daily training environments integrating sport science, psychology, and medical support. He is committed to pursuing NCCP certification and fulfilling all Canadian Safe Sport requirements upon his appointment.
Junior will play a key role in advancing Archery Canada’s high-performance strategy for Olympic programs, supporting athletes and coaches on the pathway toward LA 2028 and beyond.
“In the initial phase of his onboarding, Junior will focus on meeting with our National Team athletes, reviewing training and competition plans, and collaborating with our staff and program partners,” said Kylah Cawley, High Performance Manager at Archery Canada. “This transition period will allow him to gain insight into our systems, while beginning to assume leadership of the Olympic program. We are looking forward to working with him as he settles into the role.”
