2022 World Archery Para Championships Canadian team announced
OTTAWA, ON – Archery Canada is pleased to announce the team heading to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for the 2022 World Archery Para Championships. Based on the nomination process and eligibility criteria, the athletes representing Canada in the individual and team competitions are:
- Kevin Evans (BC)
- Steven Murgatroyd (NS)
- Chris Waterman (MB)
Kevin Evans is a gold medallist at the Guadalajara 2011 Parapan American Games and is a two-time world champion. Evans’ role on the team will also include mentoring and supporting the two other athletes and acting as the team’s captain. Steven Murgatroyd is a competitor in the Invictus Games archery event and is the coach for Team Canada for the upcoming 2022 edition in the Hague. Chris Waterman is a new archer on the para team, debuting on the international stage in Dubai. All three athletes will be competing in the compound open male category.
The team will be accompanied by Duncan Crawford, Head Coach of the Paralympic Team, and Linda Price as the assistant coach.
“This event marks a significant step in our development program,” says Crawford. “We’re excited to be getting back to international competition and look forward to our new athletes (Steve Murgatroyd and Chris Waterman) gaining valuable experience with veteran Kevin Evans. We don’t have a ton of events on the calendar this year due to the uncertainty around COVID, so we need to capitalize wherever we can. Our goal for the event is to have a safe and positive experience for all.”
