Strong Canadian Performances Highlight Pan American Youth & Masters Championships
Medellín, Colombia –Canadian archers delivered an impressive set of performances at the Pan American Youth and Masters Championships this week, with multiple athletes advancing to medal matches and setting new national and event benchmarks.
In the compound division, Cole Cahill (U15 Men) led the way with a standout qualification score of 693, setting a new U15 40m Pan American Championships Record, showcasing Canada’s depth in youth compound archery. Several Canadian compound athletes have advanced to medal matches scheduled for Thursday, including:
- Dawn Groszko (50+ Women)
- Laganjot Sandhu (U15 Men)
- Harkunwar Teja (U18 Men)
All three athletes will compete for gold in the finals, underlining Canada’s continuing strength across age categories. In Barebow Angela Orcutt (50+ Women) will also be advancing to the Gold medal match.
In Team Competition, Canada is in good shape as mixed teams compete today. Compound Under 15 Mixed Team of Jiayi Yuan and Cole Cahill took Gold over Mexico.
On the recurve side, Canadian athletes also delivered strong results:
U21 Division
- Men: Sahil Sahota (7th), Chan Hin Fei (20th)
- Women: Kylie Oliver (8th)
- Janna Hawash will compete for gold on Thursday, after breaking her own 2024 Championships record with a score of 642
In the U18 division, Canada delivered solid performances across both categories. On the men’s side, Jujharbir Dhaliwal finished 13th, followed closely by Yashveer Bains in 14th and Thana Budlek in 15th. In the women’s competition, Danny Ava led the group with a 7th-place finish, while Nazanin Zeinab Soleimanirahjerdi placed 12th. Fiona Marr and Alison Langley rounded out the results in 17th and 20th place, respectively.
Team placements in the U18 category saw both squads finishing just outside the podium:
- U18 Men’s Team – 5th place
- U18 Women’s Team – 5th place
These performances come amid a high-level international competition that has already seen multiple event records fall, highlighting the competitive environment in which the Canadian team is excelling.
With medal matches ahead and continued opportunities in team competition, Canada remains well-positioned to add to its success as the championships continue.
