Archery Canada Announces Recurve Athletes Selected to National Team for 2017 World Youth Archery Championship

OTTAWA, August 7, 2017 – Archery Canada is pleased to announce the 2017 National Youth Recurve Team that will represent Canada at this year’s 2017 World Archery Youth Championship (WAYC) in Rosario, Argentina October 2 – 8, 2017. The World Youth Championship is held every two years.
Three cadet and three junior recurve archers will represent Canada in three events at this championship: individual, team and mixed team. Furthermore, two cadets will try to secure quota places for next year’s Youth Olympics to be held in Buenos Aires.
The 2017 WAYC Canadian Recurve Team will be composed of three Junior male archers who are used to shooting and training together as part of Archery Canada’s youth development program. They have been engaged in training camps and activities to further their abilities as archers. All three young archers will experience their first trip to a World Championship, they will be able to use this as they prepare to be Archery Canada’s next generation of archers. Further along in their development, the three cadets joining them will also benefit from the fierce competition at these championships. As well, Christina Deligiannis and Benjamen Lee will participate in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games Qualifier Tournament to earn Canada a male and female quota to the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
Archery Canada’s Youth Development Coordinator, Marc Gagnon, stated; “We selected a team in line with our Next Gen Program Strategy. I have every confidence that the 2017 World Archery Youth Championship will be a milestone to make Canada one of the leading nations in the sport of archery.”
