Christopher Perkins to attend World Games in Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM, US – Following his 8th place finish at the 2021 World Archery Championships in Yankton last September, Christopher Perkins earned Canada a spot in the target compound discipline at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama. It is now confirmed that Perkins will fill that spot himself, as the sole Canadian archer at the event.
Perkins is an incredibly successful archer, winning 3 medals at previous World Archery Championships (individual gold in 2011, team silver in 2015, and team bronze in 2011) and 1 team gold at the 2011 World Archery Youth Championships. He has 2 World Cup silvers, as well as 2 medals from the Indoor World Series in 2020 and 2021.
“I’m looking forward to stepping back onto an international archery field yet again,” says Perkins. “I’ve competed in several World Championships, but have never competed at a World Games. I’m looking forward to the week and representing Canada.”
When not representing Team Canada, Perkins competes professionally on the American 3D and Target circuits. Archery Canada’s national compound program is pleased to have Perkins return to become more involved in national team programming, re-emerging at the 2021 World Championships last year to earn Canada a place in the Games.
“We are very excited to have Christopher compete on behalf of Team Canada at the World Games this summer,” comments Ryan Van Berkel, Compound Program Coordinator at Archery Canada. “It will be the first time a Canadian archer has competed at these Games since their inception in 1985. Perkins is anticipated to be a top contender in a field of the world’s best compound target archers.”
