Outdoor Environmental Safety Policy

Archery Canada releases its updated Outdoor Environmental Safety Policy, formerly known as the Severe Weather Policy. This updated policy reflects the growing importance of preparing for a wide range of environmental conditions that may impact outdoor archery events.

Outdoor conditions can change rapidly and have a direct impact on the safety of athletes, judges, volunteers, staff, and spectators, as well as on the overall integrity of the competition venue. The new policy provides clearer guidance for responding to various environmental hazards during archery training and competition.

The policy addresses key risks including:

  • Lightning
  • Excessive heat
  • High winds
  • Heavy rainfall
  • Poor air quality (e.g., due to wildfire smoke or pollution)

Applicable at national events and recommended for local use, this policy supports event organizers and coaches in making informed, safety-first decisions when weather or environmental risks arise.
