The Roger Garrod Memorial Bursary – 2026
Presented by the Archery Canada Foundation
The Archery Canada Foundation is proud to continue the Roger Garrod Memorial Bursary for its second year, honouring the enduring legacy of long‑time archery supporter and advocate, Roger Garrod. Established in memory of Roger and made possible through the generosity of his wife, Helen Garrod, the bursary recognizes young Canadian archers who exemplify excellence not only in competition, but also in character, academics, and service to the sport.
Beginning this year, two Roger Garrod Memorial Bursaries will be awarded annually, further extending the Garrod family’s commitment to supporting the next generation of Canadian archers.
Purpose of the Bursary
Each bursary is awarded to a Canadian archer between the ages of 17 and 21 who has either represented, or is on track to represent, Canada at a World Championship or other recognized international archery event.
In addition to high‑level competitive experience, applicants must demonstrate a clear intention to pursue post‑secondary education in the upcoming academic year, reflecting Roger’s belief in the importance of balancing sport, education, and personal growth.
Above all, bursary recipients must embody the values Roger upheld throughout his life and involvement in sport:
- Sportsmanship
- Dignity
- Respectful conduct, both in victory and in adversity
- A commitment to representing archery and Canada with honour
Through this bursary, the Archery Canada Foundation and the Garrod family aim to inspire young athletes to continue striving for excellence—on the shooting line, in the classroom, and within their communities.
Last year’s inaugural recipient, Amelia Gagné, set a strong example of these values, and the Foundation is proud to build on that legacy as the bursary enters its second year.
