2021 World Archery Youth Championships Team Announced
OTTAWA, ON – The Canadian team is on their way to the 2021 World Archery Youth Championships in Wrocław, Poland. The city has hosted stages in the Hyundai Archery World Cup from 2013 to 2015 and the World Games in 2017. The event happens every two years.
The recurve division will consist of a 70m (60m for cadets) round, followed by an Olympic round. The compound division will include a 50m compound round then a compound match round. All of the athletes participating in the event are younger than 20 years old.
“I’m excited to lead this team. After the last 18 months, it is refreshing to see a start to the return of archery in Canada,” says Dawn Groszko, compound team leader. “This is one of the smaller Canadian compound teams going to WAYC; we have a mix of experience on the team and with Canadian and Provincial COVID restrictions, these athletes have not had been able to practice or compete like they have been able to in the past. However, I believe we have some talented archers on the team and I’m looking forward to seeing how they do on the international archery field.”
Linda Price, recurve team leader, echoes those sentiments. “I am proud to lead such a strong team of Junior Archers to represent Canada at the WAYC in Poland. The dedication of these archers and the commitment of the various provincial and national programs that were able to provide safe training environments for our developing athletes during the pandemic is commendable. These athletes will gain new experiences at the WAYC to build on their high performance pathway, and I am excited to be a part of that.”
The Compound team representing Canada consists of:
- Chyler Sanders (Winnipeg, MB) – Cadet women
- Dustin Watson (Peterborough, ON) – Cadet men
- Isaac Bedford (Williams Lake, BC) – Cadet men
