OTTAWA, ON – The Canada Games Council (CGC), following an extensive application process with all sports, has announced that Phase 1 of sport selection has been completed and Indoor Archery (Compound and Recurve) has been selected to be included as part of the programme.

Archery Canada was one of 30 national sport organizations to submit inclusion requests for sports or disciplines. To be eligible for the Games, as outlined by the CGC, the sport needs to have a positive impact on the development of future Canadian national team athletes, sport development at the local, provincial/territorial and national levels, and have a positive impact on the Canada Games movement.

The Canada Winter Games is an important event for Provincial Teams and developing archers. It provides specific games experience and exposure to competition pressures and tension that athletes may not be able to replicate within their region or to which they have limited access. This event will help Next Generation athletes progress through a development and competition pathway to help achieve their goals in archery.

There are two more phases to take place in the sport selection – host choice selection will take place in late 2022 and the third phase will finish before winter 2024. The next Canada Winter Games are taking place from February 18 – March 5, 2023 in Prince Edward Island.
