Be Weather Ready for Archery This Summer
Outdoor archery is one of the best parts of the summer season. Whether it is a club practice, local event, tournament, or national competition, being outside is part of what makes the sport enjoyable. At the same time, outdoor conditions can change quickly, and safe participation depends on being prepared.
This summer, Archery Canada is encouraging clubs, coaches, officials, athletes, volunteers, and parents to be Weather Ready. The goal is to help the archery community prepare for environmental risks, monitor changing conditions, and take action when needed so that outdoor archery remains safe, enjoyable, and uninterrupted whenever possible.
Weather-related risks can include extreme heat, sun exposure, lightning, high winds, heavy rain, poor air quality, and increased exposure to ticks. These conditions can affect athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators, so it is important for clubs and event organizers to have clear plans in place before outdoor activities begin.
Before practices or events, clubs and coaches should review local forecasts, check weather alerts, and identify who will be responsible for monitoring conditions throughout the activity. Trusted tools such as Environment and Climate Change Canada alerts and the WeatherCAN app can help coaches and organizers stay informed about changing weather risks.
Participants also play an important role in weather readiness. Athletes, parents, and volunteers should come prepared with water, sun protection, appropriate clothing, and awareness of the conditions expected that day. In hot weather, extra breaks, shade, hydration, and schedule adjustments may be needed. If lightning, strong winds, poor air quality, or other unsafe conditions develop, activities may need to be paused, delayed, adjusted, or cancelled.
Taking early action helps protect everyone on and around the range. Being Weather Ready does not mean avoiding outdoor archery. It means making informed decisions so the sport can continue in the safest way possible.
Outdoor conditions can change quickly. Safe archery depends on preparation, monitoring, and action. This summer, be Weather Ready before stepping onto the range.
