Four recurve athletes nominated to the Youth World Championship team

OTTAWA, ON – Archery Canada is pleased to announce the nomination of four recurve athletes to participate at the 2019 World Archery Youth Championships, from August 19th to August 25th in Madrid Spain.

Aaron Cox (Devon, AB) and Remi Gervais (Montréal, QC) will compete for Canada in the Junior Male Recurve category. Cox and Gervais are two of the most experienced Junior archers that Canada has ever sent to a Youth World Championships. In July both athletes competed at the Berlin World Cup where they finished fourth in the team round.

Ben Lee (Kitchener, ON) and Jules Chouinard (Montréal, QC) will compete in the Cadet Male Recurve category. Chouinard is new to recurve competition after a successful transition from 3D archery late last fall. In contrast, at age 17, Lee is already a veteran having placed fifth at the 2017 World Archery Youth Championships and represented Canada at the Youth Olympics last year.

“I’m quite excited about the team we are fielding for this event. It’s exciting to see Jules shoot such solid scores at this early stage of his development.” said National Coach Shawn Riggs. “The other athletes are all coming off really strong performances in the last month. Remi and Aaron shot great in the team round of their first major senior event and Ben had a great result at the USAT JOAD Championship in North Carolina, despite battling illness all week.”

Travelling in support of the team will be Patrick Rivest-Bunster. Rivest-Bunster was a member of the senior National Recurve Team until 2017 when he stepped away from competition.

“It’s great to have Patrick back with the team in a supporting role. He has done a great job working with Jules and having Patrick there will help Jules get the best out of this competition. I think his experience will also provide significant benefit to the other athletes on the team.”
