Archery Canada’s New Training Centre – Moyer’s Landing in Cambridge, ON
August 12, 2021
CAMBRIDGE, ON – Archery Canada is thrilled to announce a new partnership with the City of Cambridge, ON, whereas Moyer’s Landing will become Archery Canada’s official Olympic Recurve national training centre for the next two years. This is a significant addition to the high performance program, as this will be the organization’s first national training centre.
A formal search for a national training centre began back in 2020 with significant financial support from the Government of Canada. The City of Cambridge proposed the site at Moyer’s Landing, which boasts a 70 metre target archery range with 6 target butts. This great centrally located site will provide the national Olympic recurve program with a place to train together in one city and represents one more crucial and exciting step towards building a full high performance program. The site is ideally located just off Highway 401, less than a one-hour drive from the Toronto Airport and is close to high-ranking universities and colleges in the region.
“We have been fortunate to have had great cooperation and partnerships with clubs in Ontario who have worked with the national team program to provide access to their facilities,” remarks Karl Balisch, Executive Director of Archery Canada. “This new partnership with the City of Cambridge allows for our archers and coaches to have exclusive access to a facility that will soon address their needs. Its an exciting step forward and we look forward to building a strong relationship with the City in the years ahead.”
“Cambridge continues to be a world class destination for sport, and Archery Canada joining us is further proof that we are an excellent city to live, work and play in. We’re thrilled to add Archery Canada to our community,” said Mayor Kathryn McGarry. “We have three major sport infrastructure projects underway, which highlights our commitment to city building and sport tourism. Partnering with a National Sports Organization will only bolster those efforts and help us build on that momentum.”
“As virtually all top nations have their own training facility, the partnership with the City of Cambridge allows us to close a significant competitive gap,” notes Alan Brahmst, High Performance Advisor for Archery Canada. “While this is currently a temporary footprint for us, we are hopeful in establishing a permanent facility over the next two years. We began to train and centralize for camps in Cambridge during the winter, and the support from the city as well as the various service providers has been tremendous. We are very much looking forward to working and partnering with the City of Cambridge over the long term.”
Archery Canada is the National Sport Organization responsible for the promotion and development of archery in a safe and ethical manner. The organization supports the achievement of high performance excellence in archery in all categories and the development of a national archery infrastructure to promote archery participation across Canada in cooperation with Provincial/Territorial Associations.
