April 07, 2022
PHOENIX, USA – Chris Waterman (MB) competed as the sole Canadian at the Arizona Cup this past weekend. Waterman traveled down to Arizona to compete with program coach Duncan Crawford, Head Paralympic Coach.
Following a couple days of practice with blue skies, the competition got underway for the Canadian on Saturday April 2. Chris’ score in the qualification round counted in two different categories, both the compound senior men and compound open men categories. He shot a score of 631, landing him in 56th in the senior category and 8th in the para one.
The next day, he was slated to shoot against Steve Marsh out of Colorado, USA. Marsh qualified in 9th place with a score of 703. The two athletes shot five rounds against each other, with Marsh coming out on top with a score of 146-121.
“Arizona Cup was an excellent event,” says Crawford. “It was well run with beautiful weather. Chris had a great event, with a new personal best achieved. With over 700 athletes attending this was a colossal event; we performed well and had a great time!”
The next events up on the docket for the para-archery program are the Canada Cups, Outdoor National Championships, and then the Pan Am Championships in Chile later this year.
