Three Silver Medals for Canadian Para Archers at the Santiago 2026 Hyundai World Archery Para Series

PEÑALOLÉN, Santiago, Chile (October 18, 2026) – Team Canada captured three silver medals and gained valuable international experience at the Santiago 2026 Hyundai World Archery Para Series, held October 14-18 in Santiago, Chile. Canada fielded a seven-athlete squad, including international competition debuts for Spencer Arnold (BC) and Chad McCormack (PEI), as the team continued its preparations for next week’s Parapan American Championships.

Canada’s medals came in all three men’s team categories. Shawn Matheson (ON) and Jean-François Lavergne (QC) earned silver in Para Recurve Men Doubles, while Chad McCormack and Kyle Tremblay (ON) claimed silver in Para Compound Men Doubles. In W1 Men Doubles, Daniel Comeau (QC) and Spencer Arnold secured silver, capping an impressive international debut for Arnold.

The competition featured a strong international field and several outstanding performances, including two world records. Canada matched that intensity with a number of strong qualification and elimination-round performances as the team continues building toward one of its most important events of the season.

One of Canada’s standout individual performances came from Matheson, who advanced to the bronze medal match in Para Recurve Men, as well as having hit an in-competition personal best. Competing in his first individual international medal match, he ultimately finished fourth after a hard-fought contest against Mexico’s Samuel Molina.

“The bronze medal match was super exciting as it was my first individual medal try,” said Matheson. “The staff was amazing reading my needs and helping me stay focused. Practice went well and I felt ready to do well. I had a great competitor to go against and unfortunately it didn’t go my way, but it left me wanting more and am looking forward to see what I can accomplish in Lima.”

While the three silver medals were an encouraging result, the primary objective in Santiago was preparation for the competition ahead. Athletes and coaches used the competition to fine-tune their competition routines and gain valuable match experience against many of the opponents they are likely to face again in Lima.

” The focus this week was using this event as a training ground before the Parapan American Championships,” said Linda Price, Head Coach, Paralympic Archery Program. “The athletes had the opportunity to test themselves and fine tune their tactical processes against a world-class field, and we’ll take a great deal of confidence and learning from this event into Lima.”

The team now turns its attention to the Parapan American Championships, taking place October 21-25 in Lima, Peru. The event serves as a qualifier for the Parapan American Games and will bring together the top para archers from across the Americas as they compete for continental titles and valuable qualification opportunities.

With three silver medals, strong individual performances, and valuable experience gained in Santiago, Team Canada heads to Lima with momentum and confidence as it pursues success on the continental stage.
