YANKTON, USA – Today, the individual elimination rounds took place for both the compound and recurve archers at the 2021 Hyundai World Archery Championships in Yankton, South Dakota.

The recurve archers took to the shooting line this afternoon. Andrew Azores faced Lou Thirion from France in the first round of the men’s recurve competition and unfortunately lost to his opponent by a score of 6-0. Brandon Xuereb shot against Erdem Tsydypov from RAF in the 1/48 finals and after tying the first end, he lost to Tsydypov (3-7). Eric Peters, up against Marcelo Costa from Brazil, finished his match with a score of 6-2 and moved on to shoot against Beligto Tsynguev from RAF. Peters lost the match 6-0 against his second opponent.

Virginie Chenier faced Karyna Kazlouskaya from Belarus in the 1/48 finals, and the match ended with a score of 7-3 in favour of Kazlouskaya. Tania Edwards was up against Caroline Lopez from France in the 1/48 finals. Unfortunately, Edwards was not able to walk away with the win, losing the match by a score of 7-1. Stephanie Barrett was slotted against Polina Rodionova from Ukraine in the first round. Winning the first two ends and tying the next two, Barrett moved on to face Inna Stepanova from RAF in the 1/24 finals. She won the match (7-3) and advanced to shot against Bryony Pitman of Great Britain. Pitman won the match with a score of 6-0, which means that Barrett will not advance in the competition.

“Results today were mixed on the scoreboard,” says Shawn Riggs, National Recurve Coach. “There were a number of personal achievements that were of note and would not be discernible from the results. However, from a program standpoint, there is still ample work to do as we chart a new course in preparation for Paris 2024 and LA 2028.”
