2021 National Events Update
Ottawa, ON– At the start of 2021, Archery Canada was hopeful to again host various National Level events and to see archers in Canada return to shooting in national level competition. As the year has progressed, however we have seen continuous shifts in restrictions for travel and sport participation requirements across the country. Archery Canada, and it’s Board of Directors, have made the difficult decision to cancel all major 2021 National events.
The Outdoor Archery Championships hosting schedule will be as follows:
- Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island – July 2022
- Cranbrook BC (3D) and Victoria BC (Field and Target) August 2023
- Fredericton, New Brunswick, August 2024
For the remainder of 2021, Archery Canada intends to support our Provincial Sport Members as they focus on regionally appropriate return to sport programming for their clubs, and their registrants. Locally and provincially archery will soon be possible, though there may continue to be restrictions that would impact travel between provinces. Our Provincial and Territorial Archery Associations will work with the local authorities to organize local level events, encouraging archers to compete and participate where appropriate. Where possible, Archery Canada will support our Members to help the nation get back to archery as soon as we can.
Archery Canada will promote participation in this year’s Outdoor MailMatch, providing at least one opportunity for local clubs, and PTSO’s and to get archers back out and participate in the sport of Archery in an event that will still see national participation.
We recognize that this year’s National Championships were intended to be part of various selection processes, including but not limited to, the selection for the 2022 3D Worlds Team. The Archery Canada 3D Committee met late last week (week of April 19th 2021) to discuss the new selection process that will replace the current one as it stands.
Selection for the 2022 3D World Championships will now be conducted through a Selection Trials, to be hosted in early June of 2022. The exact location and format will be communicated to all our Provincial members, and archers who have submitted their intent for selection, once details are finalized. The full updated selection addendum is being finalized and will be posted and distributed within the coming days.
Further Addendums, related to World Youth Championships and World Senior Championships are being adjusted, and will be posted and distributed as soon as possible.
