491 archers shoot in Regional Indoor Championships

OTTAWA, ON – In what was the first national competition since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, AC Regional Indoor Championships had 491 participants from 31 clubs shooting over the past two days.

Category winners hail from across the entire country, from Emily Yen (Richmond GumYing, BC) in the cadet recurve category to Tim Watts (Peterborough Archers, ON) in the master compound fixed pins class. This competition saw a mix of community-level archers with national squad athletes, such as Tokyo 2020 Olympian Stephanie Barrett from Caledon, ON.

The event took place over this past weekend (March 5-6), with both individual and team events. It marks a return to Canadian archery competition for the community and allows participants to compete in the comfort of their own club against archers from across the country. The registration numbers approached pre-COVID numbers, when the event was last held in 2019. Archery Canada is thrilled that archery is coming back in Canada after what has been a difficult two years for the sport.

The organization looks forward to further competition this year, as well as archery lessons and camps coming back starting this spring.
