Archery Canada Announces Athletes Selected to National Team for 2017 World Youth Archery Championship

OTTAWA, May 5, 2017 – Archery Canada is pleased to announce its 2017 National Youth Team that will represent Canada at this year’s 2017 World Archery Youth Championship (WAYC) in Rosario, Argentina October 2 – 8, 2017. The World Youth Championship is held every two years.

Six cadet and six junior compound archers will represent Canada in three events at this championship: individual, team and mixed team.

The 2017 WAYC Canadian Team will benefit from the experience of three archers who were part of the 2015 Team in Yankton, South Dakota: Kaitlyn Horlock and Fiona Maude from Ontario as well as Tristan Moran from Saskatchewan. Nine newcomers will complete the group of high scoring archers with 10 out of the 12 archers having shot qualifying scores that would have placed them in the top 10 in their category at the last WAYC.

Archery Canada’s Youth Development Coordinator, Marc Gagnon, described the selection of the team; “The minimum performance requirements that were put into place allowed our archers to push themselves in the months leading up to selection. They responded very well and we are presenting a Compound Team that will make heads turn next fall in Rosario.”

Archery Canada also completed phase one of the selection process for its Recurve Team by selecting Eric Peters from Ontario to the 2017 WAYC Canadian Team. Eric previously represented Canada in the last Youth Olympics Games bringing home a bronze medal in the mixed team event. The remainder of the Recurve Team will be selected August 1, 2017 as part of the second phase of the process.
