Chenier advances to the top 8 at the Pan American Games

The second day of the Pan Am Games saw two of Canada’s men in match play against each other and one of our Canadian women moving on to the top 8 in recurve. In the Recurve Men 1/16, Canada’s Crispin Duenas and Brandon Xuereb faced off against one another with Crispin taking the win 6-2. Eric Peters faced #27 Marco Lopez and after a hard-fought battle emerged victorious with a perfect x10 in the one arrow shoot off! In the 1/8 round unfortunately both Eric and Crispin lost their matches to Cuba and Mexico respectively. The recurve women had a great morning. Rookie Amelia Gagne had a good first match but Machado of Brazil proved just too strong. Stephanie Barrett beat Mendoza of Ecuador in a thrilling one arrow shoot off (10-8). Virginie Chenier took out Peredes of Cuba in a strong 7-1 match. In the 1/8 round, Stephanie fought hard but ultimately lost to #3 Ruiz of Mexico (6-2). Virginie had to battle to a one arrow shoot off with hometown favourite Andrades of Chile. On the compound Men’s side, both fought hard Andrew Fagan faced Sebastian Arenas of Columbia. Andrew beat Arenas at Worlds in Berlin earlier in the year but today was not our day, a 2-point loss 145-143. Tristan Moran had to face the top seed Kris Schaff of USA. Kris got ahead after the first end but Tristan stayed perfect after than to close the lead to 1 point. Unfortunately the American prevailed with a near perfect 149 to our 148 – a truly tough loss. With a bad weather front moving in, the Mixed Team competitions that was postponed and will be shot on Friday.
