Wrocław, PL – Canada was competing in three individual events and one team event on the docket today at the 2021 World Archery Youth Championships.

Compound cadet men’s competition – Isaac Bedford (Williams Lake, BC) was in competition with Andrey Tyutyun of Kazakhstan in the second round today and unfortunately lost his match with a final score of 142-145. Dustin Watson (Peterborough, ON) lost with a score of 138-145 against Isaac Sullivan from the United States.

“This is my first international event and I was happy with my shot process although I was not successful in today’s matches,” said Watson. “I have learned a lot from this event and I will apply it to future competitions.”

Compound cadet women’s competition – Chyler Sanders (Winnipeg, MB) won her first round match yesterday to advance to a match today against the number 1 ranked archer in the division, Priya Gurjar. Sanders gave it her all but lost to the archer from India with a score of 137-142.

“Today I came out with a plan for focusing and shooting,” Sanders commented. “I was successful in executing the plan for 3 ends out of 5; although disappointed in the results, I’m looking forward to my next event.”

Compound cadet mixed team competition – Sanders and Bedford competed against Hazal Burun and Abdullah Aslim of Turkey in the second round of the tournament. The Canadians shot a score of 152 but lost; the Turkish team won with a score of 157.

The next chance to see Canada in this competition will be tomorrow, Friday August 13, where the recurve junior men’s team take on Japan in the second round of eliminations at 1:15 p.m. local time (7:15 a.m. EST).
