Canada’s final day at the 2021 World Archery Youth Championships
August 13, 2021
Wrocław, PL – The recurve junior men’s team has lost their second elimination round match against the 3rd-ranked Japanese team.
Jules Chouinard (Trois Rivières, QC), Benjamen Lee (Kitchener, ON), and Andrew Smollett (Calgary, AB) of Canada went up against Tetsuya Aoshima, Nozomi Fujii, and Shohei Takai of Japan. The scores in the three sets were 57-51, 54-46, and 54-51.
“We are very impressed with the men’s recurve team,” remarks the team’s leaders. “This was the first international team event that any of our team members have participated in. Additionally, they did not have an opportunity to train together as a team prior to this event. Archery Canada has developed standards to assist when developing new team members and we were glad to apply those standards and see it work so well for this team. Attending events at this level for our cadets and junior athletes builds stronger teams for Canada and we expect to see more of this team of Chouinard, Lee, and Smollett in the future.”
“As a team we shot really well, the team we went up against shot better,” says Chouinard. “This experience will make us a stronger opponent for the next event.”
There were seven athletes representing Canada at the event, three participants in the recurve competition and four participants in the compound event.
This match was the final Canadian appearance in this tournament, but there has been archery going on all week in Wrocław.
