Men’s team compete in elimination rounds in Turkey

ANTALYA, TR – The Canadian men faced the team from Uzbekistan in their 1/12 elimination round at the first stage of the 2023 World Cup in Antalya, Turkey.

The team consisted of Andrew Azores, Devaang Gupta, and Eric Peters. In the first end, the Canadians lost by two points. They were able to tie the second one, but unfortunately dropped the third end, losing the match by a score of 5-1.

“We underperformed today. We know we can do better.” says Ron van der Hoff, Interim National Coach. “We have to accept that we are some months behind on the preparations due to the fact that there has been a period where there was no technical leadership on this team. It is now up to us to fill these gaps and up to the team members to do the work in order to have a better chance at the next tournament. Eric, Stephanie, and Andrew (Azores) are now focusing on their individual matches. Devaang and Andrew (Smollett) will be considering the rest of their stay as a training camp and are doing their work on the practice range and gym to get a head start in their preparations for the rest of the season.”

The attention now turns towards the individual elimination rounds, which begin tomorrow morning local time.
