Five Canadian athletes to shoot in Madrid World Cup

OTTAWA, ON – Five recurve archers will be competing in the upcoming World Cup stage in Madrid from July 8 to 13. Competing in events like these not only provide chances at medals, but also give great opportunities for experience at an international level, which prepares the national team for future national and international events.

The archers are:

  • Virginie Chénier (Laval, QC)
  • Brian Maxwell (Vancouver, BC)
  • Greg Moore (Vancouver, BC)
  • Reece Wilson-Poyton (St. Catharines, ON)
  • Brandon Xuereb (Laval, QC)

The coaching staff accompanying the athletes are:

  • Linda Price
  • Joe Leszner, CMPC

Virginie Chénier, a Paris 2024 Olympian, will be attending her 9th World Cup stage, with 3 bronze medals from Pan Am Championships already under her belt. Brian Maxwell was part of the team that won gold at the 2019 Pan Am Games, also earning him and his team a bronze at the 2024 World Field Championships. Reece Wilson-Poyton is one of the younger archers on the team, but has made history for himself as part of the bronze-medal winning team at the 2024 Korea World Cup, a first for Canada. Brandon Xuereb joined Wilson-Poyton on that podium last year, and will be competing in his 11th World Cup stage in Spain. Greg Moore is also one of the newer arrivals on the international scene and will be looking to make a mark at this World Cup.

Archery Canada is looking forward to the results these athletes bring home!
