Tokyo 2020 #athletehighlight – Stephanie Barrett

Stephanie is heading to her first Olympics and it’s to note that she only picked up a bow five years ago in 2016! Since then, she became Canadian Champion in her event in 2018 and she was also part of the Canadian team at the 2019 Pan Am Games in Peru. In Lima, she shot a personal best during the qualifications and earned herself the seventh seed.

Since the beginning of COVID, Stephanie has spent a majority of the most recent season competing in the Indoor World Series Online events. Even during a pandemic, she shot exceptionally and earned three top-40 finishes!

She kicked off her international return to competition by finishing in fifth place at the 2021 Pan Am Championships in Monterrey, Mexico and then officially qualified for a spot in Tokyo with a silver medal in the American Continental Qualification Tournament. Just two months ago, in May, Stephanie tied the Canadian women’s recurve record at the second stage of the 2021 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Lausanne, Switzerland and finished in 4th place as part of the mixed team.

Alongside Crispin Duenas, Stephanie competed in the inaugural mixed team event at the 2019 Pan Am Games in Lima. For Tokyo 2020, along with the individual women’s competition event, she will also be pairing up with Crispin in the debut Olympic mixed team event.

She’s sitting in the 64th world ranking position and can feel the excitement building up to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. “I’m looking forward to getting onto the field in Tokyo and having a moment to soak it all in, but then getting back into my usual pre-competition routine and ready to perform!”
