Karen Van Nest is Happy with the Competition in Czech Republic
Nové Město nad Metují, CZ – It’s been a tough competition at the Para-Archery World Ranking Tournament and Final Paralympic Qualification in Nové Město nad Metují, Czech Republic. Karen Van Nest, Canada’s sole representative in the competition, put forth a tremendous effort, but lost to Maryam Yavarpoor Shahrbabaki from Iran in the round of 16. Nevertheless, she’s taking it all in stride as she moves towards the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
Duncan Crawford, Paralympic head coach, says that there is a lot of positives to take from this competition. “It was a great score for Karen and she’s happy with her overall performance at this event. The quality of the tournament was excellent with most of the world’s top para shooters present.”
In the competition, Van Nest faced strong competitors, but achieved a 11th place ranking in qualifications. The competitors in this event were not only tested by each other, but by tough heat and gusty winds, never mind the obstacles that come with competitions during a pandemic. This is now her third week of competition in Europe, and her stamina is pulling her through.
